TRADITIONAL 9 PIN SKITTLE ALLEY AT THE CROWN INN

Come and have a go at traditional pub skittles on offer at The Crown Inn.

3 Balls at 9 Skittles.

TRADITIONAL AUNT SALLY AT THE FOOTBALL & CRICKET CLUB

The game bears some resemblance to a coconut shy or skittles, but with teams. Each team consists of eight players.

The ball is on a short plinth about 100 to 150 mm high x 75mm diameter, known as the "dolly", which is placed on a dog-legged metal spike about 750mm to 1000mm high. Players throw sticks or short battens (450 x 50mm) at the dolly, trying to knock it off without hitting the spike. Successfully hitting the dolly off is known as a "doll"; however if the spike is hit first, then the score does not count and is called an "iron"

TRADITIONAL TABLE TOP (CHEESE) SKITTLES AT THE NELSON CLUB

This is a variation on traditional 9 Pin skittles where the skittles are a lot smaller and stood on a table which is closed on three sides.  The idea of the game is much the same as traditional Skittles but rather than using a ball to knock down the skittles, you use a cheese which is a hard round disc.

3 cheeses at 9 skittles

PÉTANQUE AT THE FOOTBALL & CRICKET CLUB

Pétanque is a french version of bowls, the idea is to throw your ball (boule) closest to the jack (coche)

You will be given boule to use, guided on how to play and participate in a few ends of actual play.
